Foldable Phone Maintenance Guide: Tips to Prolong Your Device's Lifespan

Although flip phones trended in the early 2000s, the late 2020s saw its resurgence, powered by the latest phone technology. Along with it is the introduction of foldable phones.

What started as a concept has now become a reality as various phone companies are now developing their own version of foldable devices. Many customers are now looking forward to different innovations for this type of phone.

Since the style is fairly unique as of now, it can be expensive due to its nature. Moreover, apps are also being optimized to work perfectly with its screen.

Hence, one of the factors to consider in committing to a foldable phone is its maintenance. Unlike the usually flat phones, foldable phones are more fragile.

Handle With Care

First and the most obvious thing, foldable screens are fragile. Even if the device's demo showed how durable it is to fold, you should still be careful in folding and unfolding your device.

Avoid applying too much force or pressure on the hinge area. Try to not mix your phone with sharp objects like keys that could potentially scratch your screen while it is in your pocket.

Check for Debris Build Up

Regardless of the design, phones will accumulate dust and debris, especially on the mini holes in the speakers, camera, and charging port. However, foldable phones have a hinge and more edges.

Regularly check these parts to avoid having any issues with folding the phone. You can keep it clean by using a soft and lint-free microfiber cloth. Avoid any harsh chemicals as they can damage the coating in the long run.

Limit Exposure With Liquids

Phones are made to withstand a splash of liquids however most foldable phones are not fully waterproof. Hence, it is better to avoid exposing them to water or any other liquids.

You should also be mindful of using your phone during rainy conditions or around any liquid as it could get trapped on the hinge and damage the inside of the phone.

Minimize Exposure to Extreme Temperature

Foldable phones can be more sensitive to extreme temperatures. This means that you should not expose your phone to excessive heat and cold.

During a heat wave or winter, make sure to put an appropriate casing to avoid any internal damage to the phone. Since foldable phones are unique, you should find a high-quality case that could protect you from scratches, bumps, and most importantly, the accidental drop.

Update Software Regularly

Before buying a foldable phone, make sure to check how long the device will receive an update. Mostly, Android phones are slowly adopting up to seven years of major upgrades, compared to the regular four years of major updates.

You should also keep your phone's software up to date with the latest security patches. This will help your phone maintain its optimal performance as time passes.
