Fans of the Horizon franchise have been patiently waiting for the PC version of the sequel, and it's almost here. Not only that, but it looks like players with a good PC setup might be able to experience the game in a much higher quality.
Horizon Forbidden West PC Upgrades
Many would agree that Horizon Forbidden West is a criminally underrated game, partly because it was overshadowed by the release of Elden Ring which landed on PCs and consoles a week after the aforementioned game was released.
However, players are slowly starting to recognize that Forbidden West is an experience that can't be missed, and it won't be long before PC players who don't own PlayStation consoles will be able to play it as well.
With the PC port set to be released on March 21st, there are many technical upgrades that might just make a PC gameplay better than the console. The framerate is now unlocked and the PC upgrade will feature AMD's FSR, Intel's XeSS, and Nvidia's DLSS 3.
That means that the visually stunning game will be even more so, provided that your PC setup can support those upgrades. According to Kotaku, you can even play the game with a 48:9 screen ratio if you have three screens and 32:9 for ultra-widescreen.
The PC version that will soon be available on Steam is already a Complete Edition, which means that you'll also be getting the Burning Shores expansion that will take Aloy to the ruins of Los Angeles, where she will meet another important character.
There are also a couple of in-game items that will be included such as unique currencies like the Banuk Traveler Token, Carja Trader Token, and Nora Keeper Token. The edition on Steam will cost you $60, which is worth the price given all the included features.
If you want the same experience as PS5 players using a DualSense controller, you can do so on the PC too as it supports haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as well, although you'll need to play it while connected to a wire for those functions to work.
Is It Worth the Purchase?
Objectively, yes. $60 is a low price for a popular AAA game that includes an expansion. As for the game experience, it's definitely worth a try, especially with all the upgrades in graphics Horizon Forbidden West has compared to Horizon Zero Dawn.
It has improved physics when it comes to the elements and environment, making water, grass, and other features look more realistic. The devs also did a better job with the face animations during cutscenes, which were a bit stiff in the first game.
However, it is recommended to play Horizon Zero Dawn first before you play the sequel, as the story builds on the first game, and a lot of the important characters on Horizon Forbidden West like Varl, Erend, Sylens, and many others were introduced in the first game.
If you already have, then you'll be glad to know that you'll be seeing more variety of machine animals in the game, as well as new and more powerful mounts. You can even ride flying machines as soon as you finish a certain quest.
