7 Tips That Will Help Improve Your Aim for FPS Games

First-person shooter (FPS) multiplayer games are hardly for casual playing. Even at the start when you're playing against newbies like you, you still need to do your best to win. Other than strategy and familiarizing yourself with the controls, your aim is probably the most important aspect to improve, and here's how you'll do that.

1. Practice Regularly

This isn't something that needs to be pointed out, but no one gives the specifics of how often you should practice. Depending on how good you want to get and how much free time you have on your hands, you should practice as much as you can. Soon enough, you'll hone your reflexes, and aiming will be as easy as walking.

2. Adjust the Sensitivity

Everyone has their own speed when it comes to shifting the mouse to point at an enemy. While in practice mode, try out different mouse or camera sensitivities to determine which point works best for you. With the right setting, your aim will be more precise and you'll feel more comfortable with the controls.

3. Customize Your Crosshair

Most multiplayer FPS games allow players to customize their crosshairs. There are several ways you can adjust the crosshair such as changing its color, length, inner and outer lines, center dot, and more. For instance, some players prefer a smaller crosshair for a more precise aim, while others use bigger ones to account for spray patterns.

4. Factor In Recoil

Since FPS games try to be as realistic as possible when it comes to shooting, they tend to include recoils, which is the upward trajectory of your gun's aim when you're continuously firing. By including this factor when you shoot, you'll land more bullets on your enemy. For example, you might want to aim a little lower when you intend to spray your opponent with bullets.

5. Choose the Right Weapons

Most if not all multiplayer FPS games come with a variety of firearms you can choose from. Some have faster fire rates but have a wider range of bullet spread, while others pack a punch but are only good for close-range encounters. Find the right gun that fits your playstyle and work on your aim from there.

6. Practice Strafing While Shooting

In case you don't know, strafing is a way to reduce the amount of damage you take from enemies by moving side by side. The more you move, the harder it is for them to shoot you. As you do this, practice your aim as well so you can maintain your accuracy by accounting for the changes in your position.

7. Mind Your Crosshair Placement

You never know when an enemy will pop out, so you should always be prepared to shoot as fast as you can. You can do that by positioning your crosshair where you expect them to be. It would be better if it's at head level to get that instant headshot. Again, you should keep your gun's recoil in mind if the kill requires more than one shot.
