Samsung Galaxy S5 to hit stores in 3 weeks, have gold color option like the iPhone 5s

A Samsung executive has confirmed that the Galaxy S5 will go on sale in three weeks and will also be available in a gold color option.

We only have a few more days to go before Samsung officially takes the wraps off of its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5. With each passing day we're finding out more and more about one of 2014's most anticipated smartphones. A new report now claims that Galaxy S5 fans won't have a long wait between the smartphone's unveiling and commercial availability.

GSMArena is reporting that a top Samsung executive has confirmed that the Galaxy S5 will go on sale in three weeks. There was no specific date given, but interested Galaxy S5 fans will likely be able to get their hands on the smartphone and purchase it in the middle of March.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to be offered in a high-end "Prime" model with a QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution display and a "Standard" model with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display. It's not clear if the premium "Prime" model will go on sale in mid-March, as recent reports have suggested it could go on sale a few months later due to issues with producing the high-resolution displays. In a separate report, GSMArena further claims that Samsung will offer the Galaxy S5 in a gold color option. Ever since Apple introduced the iPhone 5s in a golden hue, gold has quickly become the new black. We've already seen other smartphone vendors such as HTC and even Samsung offer some of their smartphones in the precious metal hue.

A leaked snapshot from Vodafone's inventory system confirms that the carrier will be stocking a gold Samsung Galaxy S5, which is expected to go on sale the same day as the other colors. This is a different move from Samsung's previous gold smartphones, which have typically gone on sale months after the smartphone originally became available. Samsung most recently launched a Verizon-exclusive Rose Gold Samsung Galaxy Note 3 a few months after the original phablet went on sale in October.

We'll know the full details of Samsung's launch plans come Feb. 24, when it unveils the Galaxy S5 at its Unpacked 5 event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona.
