The first season of "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" released its final episode back on January 31st, and people are already ready for more of the demigod trio. The good news is that Disney has greenlit the show for a second season.
'Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters'
Disney finally confirmed that "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" has been renewed for the second season after the live-action adaptation of the first book, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief."
This is no surprise considering that the show was a massive success. According to Disney CEO Bob Iger in his latest earnings call, the TV show was streamed for over 110 million hours across Disney+ and Hulu, which equates to around 20.6 million views.
Even critics, known for being brutal with their reviews, gave the series a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, describing it as a "gorgeous, intriguing narrative about self-discovery, courage and friendship," as mentioned in Variety.
The second season will follow the events of book 2, which is titled "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters." The hope is that season two will also bring the same level of faithfulness to the source material, along with a few modifications fitting with the current times.
Renewing the show is also a good move on Disney's part, especially since it lost more than a million subscribers at the end of 2023 after the increase in its monthly subscription fee. With the "Percy Jackson" franchise's huge fanbase, the entertainment giant might just encourage more to join the service.

What We Can Expect from the Show
This goes without saying, but there will be spoilers ahead. Based on the second book, the second season will be packed with action and surprises such as new characters and voyages across dangerous waters, as the title suggests.
The second book introduces another important character to the circle, which will be introduced early on in the narrative. Percy will find a new friend in his new school, Meriwether College Prep. As it turns out, his new friend also happens to be a Cyclops and his brother.
The trio, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover will reunite once more to take on a quest that will save the camp after the tree of Thalia, which protects the camp, is poisoned. This time, they will be bringing Percy's newfound half-brother from Poseidon in their quest.
Fans will encounter more elements from Greek myth such as Stymphalian birds, Charybdis and Scylla, Circe, and many more, all of which they will meet on their way to retrieve the Golden Fleece that will save the tree.
You might find scenes that are familiar such as the group facing the Cyclops Polyphemos, as it is the same monster that Odysseus defeated on the very same island to escape. The source material's author Rick Riordan references a lot of Greek stories throughout the book series.
And finally, by the end of the series, we could be introduced to another major character who will play a huge role in the succeeding books. Another forbidden child fathered by Zeus, Thalia Grace, will be revived by the Golden Fleece.
