Notion Acquires Skiff, Teases Privacy-Focused Feature Soon

Skiff is capable of encrypting file storage, docs, calendars, and email, which could help improve Notion's existing features.

Skiff Impresses Notion

The company started in 2020 under Andrew Milich and Jason Ginsberg with $14.2 million in funding after two rounds of raising investment. In a blog post, Notion's COO Akshay Kothari shared that the company has been watching Skiff grow.

Kothari detailed that while the companies failed to connect before, he recently downloaded all of Skiff's products and was impressed by the attention to detail. In addition, Skiff's office is now based in the original Notion office.

Skiff initially started as a secure alternative to Google Docs to give people more control over their work. "Communication isn't just a simple back and forth - it's how we build products, come up with ideas, create great things in the world," Ginsberg explained.

Notion Shares Vision With Skiff

In the blog post featuring the executives' conversation, the companies concluded that their missions are aligned with each other, complementing the acquisition.

"Both companies are based around the idea that people are underserved by most of the tools we use, and that building a connected workspace that empowers people to do better work is not just possible, but essential," Milich explained.

Under the Skiff's support page, the company announced that the product would shut down after six months. The account will also not be converted to a Notion account.

Notion and Skiff have yet to announce the new productivity tools that will launch under the new acquisition.
