Apple Explores Idea of AirPods With Cameras, Smart Glasses After Vision Pro Launch

Apple appears to be exploring the idea of future wearable products, such as AirPods with cameras and smart glasses, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In addition, Apple is looking into the concept of a smaller Apple Watch, like a smart ring for health tracking.

Apple Explores Other Wearable Products

A few years before the upcoming launch of Samsung's Galaxy Ring, Apple's industrial design group presented the idea for a smart ring that could function similarly to the Apple Watch. Today, the concept is still in its "early discussion" stage.

However, the company is also examining the possibility of launching smart glasses like Amazon Echo Frames or the Meta Ray-Bans. The smart glasses could have AI features and smart audio capabilities. According to Gurman, this could boost Apple's long-held dream of creating spectacles that could be worn all day.

Currently, the Apple Watch and Airpods take up around 10% of the company's revenue. Hence, the addition of two wearables could further increase the sales growth in these divisions.

Apple Plans Next Step After Vision Pro's Launch

The Apple Vision Pro was previously just a concept and a dream for the company. Today, the $3,500 mixed-reality headset is considered a game-changer.

According to Gurman, Apple is studying how to work around glasses and AirPods by inserting a camera. The idea for the smart glasses involves putting cameras on the earbuds, along with advanced AI and health sensors.

The project is under the codename B798 and only started last year. Apple's engineers are still figuring out how to equip low-resolution camera sensors into the AirPods.

As for the ring, the company is targeting to sell it to people who want the same health data analysis but dislike the idea of wearing an armband. The smart ring would be for people who do not like the hardware of an Apple Watch but want access to the device's health features.
