‘Madame Web’ Can Now Be Rented, Purchased Digitally Online

It usually takes about two to three months for a theatrical release to arrive on streaming services, whether it's included in the subscription service or if it is available for rent and purchase. "Madame Web," after a disastrous release, is now available digitally after just a month.

You Can Criticize It Comfortably At Home

The film garnered a lot of attention on the internet and it was not for good reasons. People who haven't seen the movie are curious as to what made it terrible, as critics say, but curiosity alone might not be enough to make the effort to see it in cinemas.

Fortunately for those who want to hear Dakota Johnson say: "It's webbin' time," they could do so in the comfort of their own home. Sony is releasing a digital home release today, and will even come with content that you won't see in the cinema.

According to Kotaku, the digital release comes with behind-the-scenes features such as a gag reel, a deleted scene, and insight from the cast and crew. The early digital release could also be a way for Sony to earn from the movie after low box office earnings.

You can already buy the film through Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, and other platforms. Of course, you can choose to wait and see if the movie will be added to streaming services, or you could go a little extra and buy the DVD + Digital product on Amazon.

Box Office Failure

"Madame Web," before its release, had a lot of fans excited, especially since the cast had a lot of notable actresses in it. A lot of viewers were surprised that the movie did not reach the standard that most Marvel or Sony movies have.

The early watchers took to social media to criticize the film, ranging from comments saying that it was a waste of time to commenting that the directors and writers fumbled the project. This discouraged a lot of people who hadn't seen the movie.

As a result, the movie was a flop for Sony's "Spider-Man" universe. "Madame Web" grossed around $77 million after two weekends in theaters, with only $42 million at the domestic box office. Even after a month, the worldwide gross has not reached the $100 million mark.

It even did worse than "Morbius," which was also stamped with negative reviews online. Back in 2022, it made $167.5 million worldwide. This was not the first sign that the cinematic universe for "Spider-Man" was declining as the "Venom" sequel also earned significantly less than the first movie.

'Madame Web' Reviews

To say that the movie got bad reviews is an understatement. Rotten Tomatoes is filled with critics saying that the movie bombed, leading to it getting only a 13% rating and a 57% audience score. Most of the comments pointed to the lack of sense in the storyline, as well as the lack of proper direction.

One critic pointed out that it was a mystery why Sony rehired the writers of "Morbius," which was another known disastrous release. Another said it felt like the film was "chopped up and re-assembled from another," resulting in a "wildly uneven, uninspired mess."
