Sony Mobile has reopened pre-orders for its latest Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone in several European markets, including the UK, France, Spain, and Poland.
It's worth pointing out that the Sony Xperia Z2 went back up for pre-order after a month of absence, but with a noticeably changed shipping schedule. While previously Sony said it would ship it latest flagship in April, the new Xperia Z2 pre-order page now shows that shipping will commence in May.
Sony did its best to deny it, but it seems that the launch of its 2014 flagship smartphone is not very smooth, at least not in the UK. As previously mentioned, the smartphone was initially slated to launch in April, but various Sony online stores closed pre-orders all of a sudden.
Sony said at the time that it has experienced overwhelmingly high demand for its latest flagship, but denied having any supply issues and assured pre-order customers that the Xperia Z2 will ship on time, in April. Subsequent reports, however, hinted that the UK launch was pushed back by a month, and it now seems that timeframe was accurate.
The company's UK online store now lists the Xperia Z2 as up for pre-order, with deliveries set to start in May. The company still offers no reasons or explanation for this delay, but at least the smartphone is now available for pre-order again.
Sony is offering the Xperia Z2 with the same promotions that were in place before it stopped taking pre-orders. UK customers, for instance, will get a free Sony SRS-BTX300 NFC speaker when they pre-order the £599.99 smartphone.
When it comes to the U.S. launch, however, Sony has yet to offer any details regarding when its new Xperia Z2 flagship smartphone will make its debut.
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z2 sports a 5.2-inch full HD Triluminos display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for additional memory. Other specifications include a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 2.2-megapixel front shooter, dust- and water-resistance, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. The smartphone comes in black, white, and purple color options, although the Sony Mobile UK pre-order page currently shows only the black and white models.
