Snapchat, other than a platform to post selfies and updates about the current events in your life, can also function as a messaging app. Unlike other platforms, it doesn't allow editing in messages, that is until the upcoming update.
Editing Snapchat Messages
After many years of not being able to take back what you said on Snapchat, you can now edit chats on the messaging portion of the app, whether it's for fixing typos or wanting to change what you said entirely. The edited messages will automatically have a label once they are changed.
Of course, you will have to be quick when you want to edit your chats, as there is a time limit to the feature. You will only get five minutes before the message is set in stone, although that is plenty of time if you catch the detail you want to revise immediately.
The company did not exactly disclose when the feature would be released. As mentioned in Engadget, it's likely that the editing feature would come out to Snapchat+ users first, as new functions are always made available for the subscription service.
The new feature might also be in response to Snapchat's growing success. The subscription service is getting more users. At $3.99 a month, Snapchat+ now has nine million subscribers, which is continuing to increase.
Other Updates
Snapchat is also issuing an update with its emoji reactions, which have been the same since 2022. Previously, users could only choose between the laughing and the fire emoji, but the update will allow them to choose whichever emoji they deem a fit reaction to a message.
There are new functions for the social media site's AI chatbot as well. My AI Reminders can now be used to start a reminder to tell users when there's an upcoming important event like deadlines or even just the weekend.
The Reminder can be used in two ways. One would be chatting the My AI chatbot directly through the chat, or setting a reminder through a conversation with a friend through a quick message. The countdown can then be found in-app, as per Snap's blog post.
Showing your location through the Snap Map has been around for a while, but now, you can communicate with other users who opted to show their locations publicly. You can react with emojis like waving when you pass by each other or sending hearts when they arrive home safely.
Bitmoji outfits can now be customized using AI as well. Users will have to describe the clothes they have in mind and a digital garment will be generated for their avatar. Kinds of clothes like sweatshirts can be generated along with a selection of patterns to design them with.
Lastly, through AI-powered lenses, users can snap a photo through the app and make it appear like they have gone back in time. The app will use the 90s AI Lens, which the company boasts has already been used almost 40 million times.
