Roblox has been popular among children and teens alike, even grown content creators who find the community fun to participate in. Soon enough, the online game platform will have a digital world full of references from Netflix's popular shows.
Roblox's Netflix Nextworld
Given the two parties' reputations and popularity, the collaboration is a smart way to bring the fans of both into each other's consumer base. Roblox is known for its capacity for role-play, and what's better than role-playing with the TV show characters you like?
Called Netflix Nextworld, players will be able to see characters from shows like "Stranger Things," "One Piece," "Cobra Kai," and "Rebel Moon." Even the upcoming title "Jurassic World: Chaos" is already included in the digital theme park, as per Engadget.
The company expressed that the partnership is "all about bringing fans to the entertainment they love," which will come in the form of mini-games and easter eggs within the theme park. Since world-building is a huge thing in the platform, adding Netflix's elements should be interesting.
For people who don't want to stay too long in the game, there are shorter experiences they can participate in like the "Is It Cake?" online version. As explained in the title, players will guess if something is cake. It's unclear how you determine which digital cake is not cake, exactly.
The more people play, the bigger the chance they have to get collectibles that are Netflix-themed, which include wearable items from certain shows. These items can then be used as decorations for a player's private space called a Fan Pod.
If playing mini-games or collecting items is getting old, then players can rest up and join the viewing party at the "Streamship." It is a virtual cinema that serves as a "home base within Nextworld," which will have other social features other than viewing parties and premieres.
If you're interested, you can already join in on the experience as Netflix Nextworld is already in early access, and you can play it on PC, mobile, or any other console that supports the game. The streaming service said there are surprises, so it's best to keep an eye out.
Roblox Stock Plummets
The collaboration comes at a perfect time, especially since Roblox needs a little bit of a boost after its shares dropped by 22%. It cut its annual booking forecast on Thursday and now expects full-year bookings to be between $4 billion and $4.10 billion.
Its earlier forecast was at $4.14 billion to $4.28 billion, according to CNBC. This is yet again another side effect of the unstable economic outlook in the gaming industry, so much so that even giants like Electronic Arts also provided a weak revenue forecast.
It was reported that the gaming industry is still facing lower engagement. Although Roblox saw a 19% growth in player hours in the first quarter, it was still the lowest growth rate it has had in two years. Roblox Chief Financial Officer Michael Guthrie said that it was not unusual, and that players are just taking time to get settled.
