4 Ways to Improve PC Speed Without Buying New Parts

A computer's processing speed is a common problem for many PC owners as their devices lag behind the mountain of programs, files, and functions currently running on modern computer operating systems.

However, there are still several free alternatives people can use to improve their computers' speed while saving up for better hardware.

Stop Irrelevant Background Apps from Running

Opening up the Task Manager app, users would often be greeted by a list of apps and programs currently running and consuming computer processing storage.

To lessen the load on the computer, users can try to disable some background apps and software running automatically. Just make sure to not disable any Windows- or Mac-related software as it can slow down the computer instead.

Remove Unnecessary Programs Running During Computer Start

Background apps are not the only programs often hampering a computer's processing speed. In fact, most of the issues can be traced back during a PC's booting process.

Programs like Spotify, Discord, and Steam automatically run during a computer's booting process by default, making it hard to access other apps in the first few minutes of boot-up.

The wait could be much longer if the computer has no solid-state drive (SSD) or older RAM drives.

To remedy the lagging startup, PC owners can disable these programs by going through each app's settings to disable the auto-updates during the booting process.

Disable Taskbar Pop-Ups

Another annoying feature during a computer's boot-up that is also slowing down its processing speed is all the taskbar pop-ups.

These refer to the tabs suddenly opening when the cursor hovers over select parts of the taskbar like "News and Interests" or even the Windows logo.

To prevent these pop-ups from ever appearing during inconvenient times by right-clicking the taskbar and turning off all "Show..." features.

Of course, users can clear away most content of their taskbars in the same process, further lessening the load on the computer's processing by reducing the displays on the Desktop window.

Install Disk Cleaners

Computers often have a lot of irrelevant and junk files hidden and scattered across various folders and files, lessening the computer's processing power and storage.

To ease the stress of looking for these junk files, users can download disk cleaners like Bleachbit and WISE disk cleaner. All of these programs are free to use, so users do not need to worry about extra prices when using

After using the apps, PC owners can also open the built-in Disk Cleanup in Windows to delete all unnecessary files from their computer drive.
