The fans of "3 Body Problem" were happy to hear that the story will continue on the streaming service, which means that a lot of the unanswered questions will be revealed in the following releases. Unfortunately, they will be waiting a while before that happens.
Three-Year Wait for Season 2
A week ago, Netflix announced that the sci-fi TV show is returning with "all-new episodes," but there was no mention of whether it was additional episodes to the first season or another season entirely. Now, the trio, David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, has revealed more.
It might not be what fans want to hear. While it's confirmation that there are going to be more episodes down the line, the creators also mentioned that the estimated time for the process would be three years, as reported by Gizmodo.
It's still not clear if the episodes will be part of the first season, but the length of which it will be created suggests that it will already be an entirely new one. After all, the creators teased that it won't just be more episodes but more seasons.
In an interview, they expressed that the "number of hours aligns with their original plan to adapt author Liu Cixin's two remaining novels in his Hugo-winning trilogy," which means that they will get to finish the narrative.
"We're now at a place where we get to tell the rest of the story," Benioff said. "And, yes, we have enough time to tell the rest of the story the way we want to and that's immensely gratifying," so we can expect the same level of suspense and quality story-telling for the next seasons.
The following seasons will still be created, produced, and written by Benioff, Weiss, and Woo. All other details are still under wraps, including the number of seasons and episodes. The trio said it will be revealed at a later date.
We're thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion." Even though it could be a three-year wait, it's still nice to know the timeline instead of waiting for an announcement through those years.
It's Already a Finished Novel Series
The trilogy already has its ending written, so unless the trio plans to take creative liberties, we already know what to expect from the show. The same cannot be said for the ending of "Game of Thrones," which David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were heavily criticized for.
Since George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, was yet to be finished, the duo had to get creative about how they would end the show. It obviously did not go well since much of the "Game of Thrones" fanbase is still disappointed with it.
However, some argue that the events of the eighth season were on point with the theme of the show, wherein the characters so rarely get the ending they deserve. Daenerys Targaryen, for instance, who fans have been rooting for since day one, got so very close before she eventually met her demise.
