5 Worst Series Finales That Fans Want to Forget

A TV show might start off great, but you never really know how it will end until the final season is released. Some shows stick the landing, while others simply fail at providing a finale that fans have been waiting for after following the series for years. Here are some that have the most disappointing and unsatisfying endings.

1. 'How I Met Your Mother'

How I Met Your Mother
CBS

The sitcom ran for nine seasons, and the fans of the show were met with comedy, romance, and drama. After everything that Ted went through, especially with his infatuation with Robin, he finally found someone who understood him completely.

Tracy, the mother, was a perfect match for Ted, which is why it angered some fans when the writers decided to kill her off. They also broke Barney and Robin up, which many believe was also a perfect match, just so Robin and Ted could reignite something that already failed before.

2. 'Gossip Girl'

The CW

One of the reasons that fans stuck around for all the seasons is to get that satisfying reveal about who Gossip Girl really is. After all, it was she who made the life of the elite in the Upper East Side, New York City all the more interesting.

Imagine finding out that not only was GG not a "she," but it was also someone that fans would least expect. The big reveal pointed to Dan Humphrey, who was referred to several times as "lonely boy" and whose life was derailed several times because of the gossip train.

3. 'Dexter'

Dexter
Showtime

When you create a show with an interesting character, premise, and story, people will keep watching it and ask for more. Following the life of someone who helps with murder investigations and commits them as well, now that makes good TV.

The question is can the writers keep up the same quality as when it began? Unfortunately for "Dexter," that was not the case, especially with the final season. To make matters worse, they ended the show with the most convenient (borderline boring) ending for the protagonist.

4. 'Game of Thrones'

Game of Thrones
HBO

This list will not be complete without the colossal disappointment that is the "Game of Thrones" finale. The show had a solid run, so much so that there's already a prequel and another one that serves as the prequel to the prequel.

It was the kind of show that would pull the attention of everyone at a bar and customers would cheer when a hated character dies. That's not what happened with the finale after every single character did not get the ending that made any sense, which fans complained was poor writing.

5. 'Seinfeld'

Seinfeld
NBC

If you ask someone to make a list of good sitcoms to watch, they would likely add "Seinfeld" to that list as it has given generations several seasons of comedy. The show ran for ten years and those who followed the show thought they deserved a better ending.

Most of the complaints brought up the fact that the finale was just a "clip show," and that was already after fans were given a two-part clip show prior. The writers thought the group being sent to jail for laughing at a fat man being robbed at gunpoint was funny, but fans disagree.
