HBO's post-apocalyptic hit show is shaping up to be a good one as another popular actor joins the cast for the second season. A lot of the crucial roles have already been filled, and Wright will be taking the role of the liberation group leader to be introduced next season.
Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon
The game sequel introduced a lot of antagonists into the storyline making for a more complex narrative, and fans are all for it as each introduces a new perspective into what people would do to survive in the unforgiving universe of The Last of Us Part II.
One that we can expect to be introduced next season is Isaac Dixon, the leader of the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) or Wolves. He won't particularly be the antagonist for Ellie but for the deuteragonist, Abby Anderson.
Given Isaac's determined and ruthless backstory, the show will need to cast someone who can pull it off, and Jeffrey Wright might just be the right man for the job. The Oscar nominee already has a background of the character, after all.
In case you don't know, it was actually Wright who voiced and performed the motion capture for the in-game character, which means that he will be as close as we get to an accurate portrayal as it will simply be a reprisal of the role, as per Gizmodo.
If you want to see the actor in action, you can watch his other performances in the show "Westworld," or the movie "The Batman" where he plays Jim Gordon. You might also recognize him as Beetee from "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" parts one and two.
This isn't the first time the show is bringing in actors from the game. One of the antagonists in the franchise, Marlene was played by Merle Dandridge in both the game and the show. Even the voice actors of Ellie and Joel secured roles in the first season.
The voice behind Ellie, Ashley Johnson, played the role of Ellie's mother in a short scene that explains why Ellie has immunity against the Cordyceps brain infection. Troy Baker, the voice of Joel, played the role of James, who is a member of David's survivors and was ultimately killed by Ellie.
Other Notable Cast Additions
HBO has already filled most, if not all of the important roles for the second season, and has already begun filming. One of the biggest casting news was that of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby Anderson, as many fancasted her as the live-action Ellie before the show was even produced.
Other notable additions are Isabela Merced as Dina, who was Ellie's love interest in the sequel and accompanied her during the protagonist's initial quest for revenge. There are already photos of Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and Merced on horseback circulating on the internet.
There's also "Beef" actor Young Mazino, who will play Jesse, "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" actress Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Danny, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Catherine O'Hara, whose role is yet to be revealed.
