The Tomb Raider franchise is popular for a reason. It takes players on an adventure into ancient ruins as the protagonist, Lara Croft, fights off any trap or enemy that gets in her way. There have already been several movies that adapted the IP, and now, fans are getting a series.

Netflix first announced that the show was in development back in 2021 and after three years, "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft" is finally set to be released this October 10th. The trailer has given us a peek at what the adventurer will look like as well.

According to the blog post, the story will follow the events of the Survivor Trilogy video games: Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, wherein Lara Croft would abandon her friends to embark on more dangerous solo adventures.

However, the protagonist must return home after finding out that a "thief with an uncanny personal connection" to her has stolen a powerful Chinese artifact from Croft Manor. This, of course, would again take her to tombs around the world.

The voice actors in the show include Marvel's "Agent Carter" actress Hayley Atwell as Lara Croft, along with Allen Maldonado as Zip, and Earl Baylon who will once again play the same role he had in the game as Jonah Maiava.

The producers have also done work with Netflix before. Executive Producer Tasha Huo was the one who wrote "The Witcher: Blood Origin" and "Red Sonja," as well as dj2 Entertainment founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson, who was behind Sonic the Hedgehog and Life is Strange.

It's true that Netflix's adaptations have become somewhat of a coin toss when it comes to story quality, but it has had a good track record with video game adaptations before. After all, Netflix managed to do more than well with "Arcane" and "Cyberpunk Edgerunners."

In the Mean Time

While you wait for the release of the upcoming animated series, which is a little over four months away, there is a lot of "Tomb Raider" content you can go through for now. Specifically, there are three films you can watch.

The first one is "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" from back in 2001 starring Angelina Jolie as the titular character. The movie comes with a sequel titled "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life," which was released two years after the first film.

If you prefer a more recent release, you can opt for the 2018 movie titled "Tomb Raider," starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. It has a different storyline, in a way, as it starts off with Lara without the Croft fortune. She does eventually do what the character is known to do, which is go on adventures in ruins to achieve her goal.
