Matt Baume

Ever wondered how queer representation has evolved over the years? Then, Matt Baume's content might just be for you.

Mixing historical content with the LGBT movements of the time, Baume depicts the lives of several queer actors and personalities as they struggle to break out of pre-conceived norms about non-straights.

Baume has even published two books in 2015 and 2023 to detail how queer activism has become part of the sitcom and US show culture, as well as its effects on its viewers.

hazel

Anime and games are the backbone of nerd content on YouTube. Despite its prevalence across multiple communities, it is rare to see new queer content creators "make it" amid the deluge of male gamers and female e-celebs.

That is why it is great to see content creators like hazel gain recognition with her videos on niche anime shows, old Sonic games, and other 2000s content, providing people with another perspective into their childhood memories.

As of writing, hazel has not posted in seven months as she is finishing her "zero budget" passion film.

Alexander Avila

Video essays and podcasts are the current "meta" of many streaming platforms. It is no surprise that the medium also sees growth in queer content creators bringing their creativities.

One notable video essayist is Alexander Avila, a Brown University political sociology graduate and a full-time music artist.

Most of Avila's videos discuss how LGBTQ content affects people's perception of real-life queers and how companies use these trends to build customer trust.

SuperButterBuns

If you prefer live streams over pre-recorded and edited videos to interact better with the community, a good starter would be watching SuperButterBuns' streams.

Mostly stream Japanese role-playing games like Final Fantasy and Persona, SuperButterBuns often interject their past experiences into their commentaries, providing viewers with a rich experience in queer communities.

Even if you are unable to watch their content live, most game streams are later uploaded on their YouTube channel with a few edits to shorten their duration.

Samantha Lux

A transgender advocate, Samantha Lux's content mainly revolves around reaction content with the YouTuber providing her insights into recent events happening to trans communities.

Most videos are short and easy to digest with Samantha Lux even providing in-depth analysis of social and political subjects mixed with her commentaries.

Most of her content topics usually involve trends that went viral on X (formerly Twitter) or TikTok, so not all viewers may relate to the topic quickly.

Fortunately, she provides enough context to give watchers some head-start on the discussions.
