The much-rumored Android 4.4.3 KitKat update is apparently ready to roll out and will hit Nexus devices as soon as next week, starting on May 23.
Devices in the Google Nexus lineup are widely popular worldwide, not only due to their affordable price tags for the specs they pack, but also for their first-class ticket to timely Android updates. Basically, every time Google releases a new version of Android, Nexus devices are the first in line to get it.
This time seems to be no different, as Google is reportedly getting ready to release its latest Android 4.4.3 KitKat. The new version was spotted on several occasions so far and a new report from Android Geeks now claims that it will roll out to Nexus devices starting on Friday, May 23.
The latest update is expected to bring along several fixes and improvements, though it will not be a major one. Citing their own sources, the folks over at Android Geeks claim that Android 4.4.3 KitKat will initially roll out to the Google Nexus 5, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10.
As previously mentioned, Nexus devices are first in line to get new Android updates, and they are followed by Google Play Edition (GPE) devices. This means that GPE devices should get the latest update soon afterwards, possibly next month.
It remains unclear at this point just what exactly the new Android version will bring to the table. Considering that it's a minor update, however, most likely there will be no major changes, but a few bug fixes and stability improvements, as well as general performance enhancements should be in the cards.
As Android Geeks further points out, Google is expected to unveil a major Android version later on at its Google I/O 2014 developer conference, where we'll likely see a new Nexus device as well. The company typically releases a new Nexus device with each new major Android iteration, and this year the much-rumored Nexus 8 is expected to be the launch vehicle for Android 5.0, or whatever the next version will be called.
In the meantime, Android 4.4.3 KitKat is the very latest version, and will make its debut soon. If it starts rolling out on May 23, all of the aforementioned Nexus devices should run the new software by the end of the month.
