Formula 1 and Amazon launched their AI model called Statbot which processed real-time data from the current race to provide analysis during broadcasts.
Statbot utilized information from race archives and current racing data to provide context and trivia to viewers during the Spanish Grand Prix last June 23.
Formula 1 Plans on Improved Broadcast With Statbot
In a press release, Amazon unveiled the potential of Statbot for the future Formula 1 races. The generative AI feature will supply facts and statistics quicker to broadcast production.
"Information is currently researched manually in preparation for, and during, race weekends but with the Statbot tool the production team will be able to access relevant information significantly faster during the broadcast," the company wrote.
Both companies are looking for ways to keep fans hooked on the race. Trivia and statistics data will be used to increase the engagement and entertainment factor of the broadcast. Amazon debuted Statbot during the recently concluded Spanish Grand Prix in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Amazon Strengthens Ties With Formula 1 Using AI
Formula 1 and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have been partnering for six years already. Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a data-driven enhanced viewing experience for fans.
The sport is also pushing to introduce more generative AI tools through AWS. During the Canadian Grand Prix, Formula 1 introduced its first generative AI-inspired trophy, allowing fans to design their own trophy.
Aside from AI, the sport is also focused on increasing its global appeal by partnering with Netflix. An ongoing documentary series "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" has been covering behind-the-scenes actions that are often not seen during race weeks.
Statbot is expected to generate crucial race predictions like pit-stop timing and potential overtake scenarios in the coming races.
