The VR industry continues to gain traction and other brands are developing their own devices for it. PlayStation is among the most popular brands to release models such as the PS VR 2, but it looks like the company won't be investing much in its VR device's games anymore.
PS VR 2's Last Two Games
Those who are patiently waiting for the next games they can play with Sony's VR headset should not expect much from the company anymore. Despite being a gaming VR headset, Sony is reportedly capping its VR game budget.
There are now just two titles in the works, and that will be the last from the entertainment giant. One of the selling points of the VR headset is its exclusive virtual reality games that are not released on other platforms, unlike select Sony titles that are launched on PC after a few years.
With just two games for release, prospective buyers might lose interest in the device, seeing as they could just opt for other brands that are cheaper in price and will provide the same function. Then again, it could just be that the company is already moving away from the VR industry.
Sony hasn't been featuring VR games that much in its announcements and showcases, as pointed out by The Verge, and it could be a sign that PlayStation might just stick to its flagship console or hopefully, a handheld that does not require a home console.
Not only that, the company has also laid off employees within its VR department. Particularly, many developers from Firesprite lost their jobs earlier this year. In case you don't know, the mentioned studio is behind Sony's popular VR title, Horizon Call of the Mountain.
It also shut down its London studio which developed PlayStation VR worlds. Even though Sony did feature a couple of VR games, none of them were exclusive titles. However, there is one reason why buyers might still buy the PS VR 2, and that's the upcoming PC adapter.
PS VR 2 PC Adapter
Just because Sony doesn't have an extensive list of upcoming games in its future, it doesn't mean that the VR headset would be obsolete. There is an upcoming PC adapter that would allow owners to finally play PC games on the device.
If anything, this might be the reason why Sony is abandoning the production of new exclusives aside from the reported last two games. With the adapter, players will have access to a much larger library of PC games, making the purchase worth it for those who already have one.
According to the blog post, the PC support will be launched by August 7th. The PC adapter, apart from the cost of the PS VR 2 itself, will cost $59.99 and can either be purchased through select retailers or through the official website.
Players will also need a DisplayPort cable that's compatible with DisplayPort 1.4 and a PC that meets the requirements. The adapter itself is composed of an adapter box and a hub that connects multiple wirings to the VR headset.
