Windows Phone 9 Preview to arrive in first half of 2015

The next version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, Windows Phone 9, will reportedly arrive in Preview mode in the first half of 2015.

Windows Phone 8.1 has just made its debut, but the rumor mill is already looking at the next version of the OS. According to some recently-leaked documents, Windows Phone 9 Preview will arrive sometime between the second and third quarters of next year, along with Windows 9.

A recently-leaked document that appeared on the Neowin forums was heavily censored, but the folks over at Myce managed to obtain the original, uncensored version and published it online with the full details. The document only has one bit of information relevant to Windows Phone users, listing Microsoft's roadmap for next year.

If Windows Phone 9 Preview comes sometime between the second and the third quarters, Microsoft should release the final OS sometime in the fourth quarter of next year, around the same time that Windows 9 makes its debut.

Windows Phone 9 is expected to come with a number of updates over the current Windows Phone 8.1 version, offering some notable improvements. These enhancements will reportedly include updates to the user interface (UI), changes to Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant, changes to OneDrive, Windows Defender, improved Windows activation, and more.

Microsoft has already made impressive improvements in its Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1, finally reaching a more level playing field compared to its competitors. The next Windows Phone 9 should be even more feature-packed and support more high-end goodies, taking Windows Phone devices to the next level.

In addition to this timeframe for Windows Phone 9, Myce further noted that Microsoft's Office 2015 is no longer in Alpha, which means that the company could be gearing up for a public review of Office 2015 soon, releasing the beta for testing purposes.

Regarding Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9, meanwhile, little is known at this point, but more information should become available soon. As always with leaks and rumors, it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt. This leaked document provides a timeframe, but there's no guarantee that it's accurate. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
