GTA Online Receives Backlash After Putting Most Requested Feature Behind a Paywall

GTA Online has been around for more than a decade, but people still play it to this day. Rockstar Games is still releasing updates for the game, but the recent one raised a few eyebrows and has players calling the move greedy.

GTA Online's New Quality of Life Feature

Even after more than 10 years, there are still a few improvements that fans of the title are asking for, and one of them has been granted. It comes with GTA Online's latest event called Bottom Dollar Bounties, which is an in-game phone app called Vinewood Club.

Through the app, players can now easily "request vehicles, claim all outstanding business safe earnings, and replenish ammo" all in one place. While collecting money from your businesses isn't that big of a hassle, it would still be better to do it conveniently through an app.

As people say, convenience comes at a price. In this instance, that price is $8 for the GTA+ monthly subscription fee, as reported by PC Gamer. This effectively puts one of the most requested features behind a paywall.

Having to pay for something that has been requested for a long time understandably upset some players in the fanbase, saying that Rockstar Games is figuring out how to monetize the feedback from its players. "One of the slimiest things they've done in a while," said one player.

Another said that the paywall keeping players from the car dealership was already stretching it, but now including a QoL update made them more concerned over GTA 6 Online. It's a valid concern seeing as microtransactions are becoming more prevalent in the gaming industry.

One player pointed out how ridiculous it is that Rockstar Games is still charging for such features considering that it is a 10-year-old game. It's definitely irksome seeing as newer games like God of War Ragnarok has even released a full DLC for free.

What's more, even those who are willing to pay $8 per month won't be able to pay if they're playing on a PC. The membership subscription is only available for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S due to players allegedly cheating on PC.

What Does GTA+ Get You?

If you really want the new feature, you could just subscribe to the premium membership, provided that you're playing on the eligible consoles. If you subscribe now, you will get an extra bonus of GTA$1,000,000 every month.

That's already on top of the usual GTA$500,000 which is deposited automatically into your Maze Bank account. The Vinewood Club will also offer unique amenities and premium vehicles, as well as 100 vehicle slots at The Vinewood Club Garage in Downtown Los Santos.

The garage allows you to modify your vehicles through the Vehicle Workshop without the rank requirement restrictions. There are free clothing as well such as the Independence Day Jacket and Pants, and you will have access to certain titles from Rockstar Games for free. Such as Red Dead Redemption and the GTA Trilogy
