Nintendo revealed that the company has no intention to jump on the generative AI train and utilize the latest technology in its games.
In a recent Q&A with investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa cleared the company's stand on the AI boom, especially in the gaming industry.
Nintendo Recognizes Challenges With Generative AI
According to Furukawa, game development and AI technology have been closely related. However, Nintendo acknowledges that generative AI is often linked to issues with intellectual property rights.
"We have decades of know-how in creating optimal gaming experiences for our customers, and while we remain flexible in responding to technological developments, we hope to continue to deliver value that is unique to us and cannot be achieved through technology alone," he added.
Nintendo fans can rest easy for now as the company cleared its stance on generative AI. The company known for its wide IPs like Super Mario is now shutting the door for an AI integration.
Game Industry Explores AI Integration Amid Tight Competition
AI will inevitably influence the gaming industry. Some companies have started to openly collaborate with AI companies.
Microsoft has partnered with Inworld AI to help them with AI game dialogue and narrative tools. The company is also testing an animated AI chatbot that will be used for Xbox players.
While fans welcome these types of AI integration, some are appalled by how other companies use generative AI art for promotional materials.
Previously, Xbox was scrutinized for allegedly using AI for its poster. The company then deleted the material but never admitted the usage of the technology.
