Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini to hit retail mid-July, sport some premium specs & features

It's almost time for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini to come out, and it seems the device will indeed debut sometime in mid-July.

Samsung was the one to start the whole "Mini" trend when it launched its Galaxy S3 Mini, then followed up last year with an S4 Mini. This year the company launched the Galaxy S5 as its latest flagship smartphone, and a smaller variant is expected to arrive shortly.

The purported Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini already leaked a couple of times previously, and now another report adds some more details regarding the smartphone's specifications and expected release date.

According to a new SamMobile report, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will go on sale worldwide in mid-July, which falls in line with Samsung's previous launch schedules. The company released its Galaxy S4 Mini the same month last year.

When it comes to hardware specs, however, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy S5 may bring some neat surprises. While previous "Mini" versions of flagships came with watered-down specs to accommodate a lower price tag and a more compact form factor, the Galaxy S5 Mini will reportedly retain some of the premium features found on the current flagship.

More specifically, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will reportedly come with a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate monitor, as well as IP67 certification for dust- and water-resistance. Moreover, Samsung will also throw in its latest software goodies, including Private, Kids, and Ultra Power Saving modes.

SamMobile further confirms previously leaked hardware specs, and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is shaping up to be quite a nice change from the mid-range Minis we've seen so far. Based on reports and leaks, the Galaxy S5 Mini will sport a 4.5-inch display with 720p resolution, a quad-core Exynos 3470 processor, Mali-400 MP4 graphics, and 1.5GB of RAM. Other rumored specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. Connectivity options will reportedly consist of LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, GPS, and an IR blaster. On the software side, the handset will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Samsung's TouchWiz UX on top.

Nothing is officially confirmed at this point, however, so take all leaks and reports with a grain of salt for now. If the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is indeed set to hit retail mid-July, more information should become available shortly.
