The Moto 360 smartwatch from Motorola will reportedly launch alongside the Moto X+1 "later this summer," and will be available through Moto Maker.
Motorola had already said that it would launch its Moto 360 later this summer, so there's no big surprise there, and we already expected it to launch alongside the upcoming Moto X+1. The availability through Moto Maker, however, is more intriguing.
Moto Maker is Motorola's customization website, allowing users to choose their preferred designs in order to get a more personalized smartphone. The site was a big hit with the highly-customizable Moto X and the Moto X+1 is expected to sport similar customization options, but it remains unclear what exactly would be so customizable about the Moto 360.
Since it's a smartwatch, the Moto 360 will not be very big, which automatically limits customization options. Motorola already revealed there will be several choices when it comes to the device's strap, but using Moto Maker just for a strap sounds a bit too much. Nevertheless, an exclusive Phone Arena report claims that Motorola's smartwatch will become available through Moto Maker.
The Moto 360 is the first round-faced smartwatch to debut, and many believe that it has the best design of all Android Wear devices so far. The recently-launched LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live smartwatches both sport rectangular displays, but the Moto 360 looks closer to a watch with its round screen.
"Moto 360 sets itself apart with a design that reimagines time for the modern era - a distinctive round display, carefully chosen materials, and fine craftsmanship all while keeping you on track and up to date without taking you out of the moment," Motorola touted in a blog post last week.
The smartwatch itself will come in black or steel color options, while wristband choices are expected to include leather, metal, or rubber. Motorola further said last week that it will launch more watch faces for the Moto 360 after the device makes its official debut, so this will likely be the customization aspect of the smartwatch. The company still hasn't offered an exact launch date, giving only the loose timeframe of "later this summer." The price of the Moto 360 also remains unknown at this point. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
