If you needed further proof that selfies are taking over the world, Sony has just launched what it calls "the world's best selfie smartphone": the Xperia C3.
Sony's latest smartphone boasts a beefed-up front shooter with a 5-megapixel sensor, accompanied by high-tech to turn selfies into artwork with minimum effort.
"Xperia C3 is a unique new smartphone from Sony, created to offer the ultimate social sharing experience with a new powerful 'PROselfie cam.' It also presents a combination of the best of Sony, with leading digital imaging technology and brilliant specs and performance all for a mid-range price," touts Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, in a new company blog post on Tuesday, July 8.
"The rise of selfies shows no signs of abating - its usage has increased by 17,000% since 2012 with the word officially being added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013. We're excited to offer SONY's first 'PROselfie Smartphone' and play a part in this global phenomenon."
The new Sony Xperia C3 sports a large 5.5-inch display and is "fully-optimised for selfies." More specifically, instead of a low-resolution front shooter like on most smartphones, the Xperia C3 boasts a 5-megapixel front camera so you can see yourself on the display and take a photo without compromising the quality of the picture.
The 25-mm-wide angle camera further boasts a soft LED flash, and Sony has also simplified the whole picture-taking process. Users will be able to take photos simply by double-tapping the back of the phone, or they can choose to set the Smile Shutter to activate as soon as it detects a smile. Once you've captured a shot, you can also add extras such as funny glasses, pirate hats, or others such, or edit your image using the portrait retoucher.
Other specs of the Sony Xperia C3 include a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM, GB of internal storage capacity, and an 8-megapixel rear camera. The smartphone comes in white, black, and mint color options.
In terms of availability, the Sony Xperia C3 will first launch in China next month, and make a global debut afterwards. In the meantime, check out the video below to see the "world's best selfie smartphone" in action.
