Samsung may be the undisputed king in terms of Android devices, but Apple is apparently still leading the pack when it comes to smartphones in general.
Everybody knows that Apple has a loyal fan base and its iOS devices are enjoying great popularity worldwide, and new market research now proves just how popular iPhones really are.
The folks over at Counterpoint Technology Market Research have found that Apple's iPhone 5S is currently the leading device, topping smartphone sales in as many as 35 countries across the world.
"Apple's iPhone 5s is still the bestselling smartphone in May 2014, 8 months after its launch last year. Samsung's new flagship, Galaxy S5 comes in at second," reveals the announcement.
"According to Counterpoint's channel survey across 35 countries, Apple's iPhone 5s continues to be the bestselling phone in the world, a spot that many expected to be taken by Samsung's Galaxy S 5. The highly anticipated Galaxy S5 comes in at second place but still a quite distant number two in terms of (sell through) unit sales. The iPhone 5c shipments continue to decline but Apple continued clearing excess inventory for the iPhone 5c during the month. Apple iPhone 5c sales put it behind Samsung's last year's flagship Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note III."
As the research is from May of this year, there's still a chance that Samsung outperformed Apple's iPhone 5S with its Galaxy S5, but no information is currently available in this regards.
Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 will surely enjoy even more success than the current iPhone 5S flagship, as the company is widely expected to finally move to larger screens with its new iteration. The iPhone 6 will reportedly launch in two large-screen models, one with a 4.7-inch panel and the other with a massive 5.5-inch display, and rumors also hint at notable improvements on all fronts.
The iPhone 6 should pack a more powerful Apple A8 processor, which could mark the first time an iPhone features a processor clocked at 2GHz or higher, and is also expected to boast other neat features such as an extra-durable sapphire glass display cover, NFC, wireless charging, enhanced LTE support, and more.
As for Samsung, the research showed that its Galaxy S5 ranks second, while its Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 take the third and fourth spots, respectively. The iPhone 5C takes the fifth spot, followed by the iPhone 4S on sixth and the Xiaomi Mi3 on seventh. Rounding up the top ten are the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini on No. 8, the Xiaomi Hongmi Redrice on No. 9, and the Galaxy Grand 2 on #10. The Sony Xperia Z1 came in close, but failed to make it to the top 10.
