As recent rumors have indicated, Apple has officially launched refreshed models of its 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops.
The new models pack faster versions of Intel's i5 and i7 Haswell chips and they also boast improvements in the RAM department: all 13-inch models now feature 8GB of RAM, while all 15-inch versions now boast 16GB of RAM.
If you're interested in Apple's refreshed MacBook Pro lineup, here's what the new models have to offer and for how much:
Refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro
- 2.6GHz dual-core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of flash storage, for $1,299;
- 2.6GHz dual-core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of flash storage, for $1,499;
- 2.8GHz dual-core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of flash storage, for $1,799;
Refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro
- 2.2GHz quad-core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of flash storage for $1,999;
- 2.5GHz quad-core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of flash storage for $2,499;
It's worth pointing out that the highest-end 15-inch model also got a neat $100 price cut, selling for $2,499 instead of $2,599. Apple also offers build-to-order options for customers who are not satisfied with the available configurations. Such options include a 3.0GHz dual-core i7 processor for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 2.8GHz quad-core i7 processor for the 15-inch model, or 1TB of flash storage for both the 13- and the 15-inch variants.
While Apple refreshed its lineup of Retina MacBook Pros, the company also made the non-Retina models more attractive. More specifically, the non-Retina MacBook Pro received a $100 price cut, dropping from $1,199 to $1,099. This model, however, did not receive any updates in terms of internals.
The 2014 refreshed MacBook Pro lineup will surely find plenty of interested buyers, but most iFans may be putting off purchases until Apple launches more significant upgrades. Once Intel's next-generation Broadwell chips finally hit the market, Apple is expected to pack some serious muscle into its next-generation MacBook Pros. With Intel's Broadwell delays, however, it remains unclear just when new MacBook Pros will make their debut. Some whispers suggest a launch as late as mid-2015.
Meanwhile, Apple's refreshed Retina MacBook Pro lineup is already available through its retail locations as well as its online store at this link, listed as ready to ship "within 24 hours."
