HTC and Microsoft have officially announced the new HTC One M8 for Windows as a Verizon exclusive, but just for now.
The new HTC One M8 for Windows just made its debut and is currently available exclusively from Verizon Wireless in the U.S., but this exclusivity deal will not last. The handset will land on AT&T's network as well, although no exact launch date is available at this point.
The new variant of the popular HTC One M8 makes its official debut after a slew of rumors anticipating its arrival. As expected, this new model retains the highly-appreciated specs, features, and design of the original HTC One M8, but it runs Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system instead of Android.
"Consumers love the HTC One (M8) and today's introduction extends that enthusiasm to new audiences hungry for choice in their mobile experience," HTC President Jason Mackenzie announced in a company blog post on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
"The HTC One (M8) for Windows is true to the flagship product's award-winning design and unique experience while also taking the best of what Windows Phone has to offer," further touted Darren Laybourn, Corporate Vice President of Engineering at Microsoft. "We succeeded in offering customers the best of both our worlds with this phone."
The new HTC One M8 for Windows comes with the same 5-inch full HD display as the original model, as well as the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage capacity. Other specs include the much-touted Duo Camera with UltraPixel technology and a depth-sensing sensor, as well as a 5-megapixel front shooter and BoomSound front speakers. The Windows Phone 8.1-powered model, however, will be available only in a Gunmetal Gray color option.
As previously mentioned, the new HTC One M8 for Windows is already available for purchase from Verizon Wireless, and for now it is exclusive to Big Red. Nevertheless, AT&T touts that the smartphone is "coming soon" to its network as well, and is currently allowing interested customers to register for more details. AT&T has not offered any specific launch date for the HTC One M8 for Windows on its network, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as more details surface.
