Sony Xperia Z3 Compact leak reveals neat design, uncompromising specs ahead of IFA 2014 debut

Sony will announce several devices at the IFA 2014 trade show this week, including the new Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, and now more details have surfaced regarding the latter.

The upcoming Xperia Z3 Compact is the star of a new leak, revealing exciting details ahead of the big announcement. While "Mini" versions of flagship smartphones typically come in the mid-range segment of the market, sporting watered-down specifications compared to their big brothers, Sony revolutionized the whole trend when it introduced its Xperia Z1 Compact.

As the name itself suggests, the Xperia Z1 Compact came as the smaller variant of the then-flagship Xperia Z1, but it made very few compromises in terms of specifications. The company was later expected to launch an Xperia Z2 Compact, but that iteration never made it to the market. Sony was then rumored to jump straight to the Xperia Z3 Compact, and it now seems that this is the case.

Ausdroid has now obtained two press shots of the purported device, as well as some details in terms of specifications. According to the report, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will sport a 4.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, although previous reports had hinted at a Full HD display (1920 x 1080). Other specs include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, and a high-end 20.7-megapixel rear camera.

The report further claims that the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will use a Nano SIM card, not a Micro SIM as its predecessor. A 2,600 mAh battery, meanwhile, will keep things up and running.

The smartphone is also expected to be certified for dust and water resistance, just like most of Sony's latest devices. On the software side, the Xperia Z3 Compact should run the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

In terms of color options, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will apparently come in white, black, orange, and green paint jobs. It's all still in the rumor state at this point, but more details should become available shortly once Sony makes it official at the IFA 2014 trade show.

We'll keep you up to date as soon as we get the official scoop, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
