Gmail 5.0 for Android is expected to hit Google Play very soon, but those who don't want to wait any longer can now download the APK.

The next version of Gmail for Android is is highly anticipated because it boasts huge changes over the previous iteration, and the available APK makes this apparent from the very start.

As soon as you launch it the major changes are more than obvious, starting with the visual experience all the way to the new functionality of the app. One of the biggest changes Gmail 5.0 for Android will bring to the table is the ability to handle ALL email, meaning that it will allow users to handle even email from other accounts such as Yahoo and Outlook straight within the app.

In fact, the ability to add multiple accounts is the first thing you see when launching the new application, as Gmail 5.0 for Android asks from the start which type of email accounts you want to use. Users will now see brighter colors, smoother navigation, cleaner threads, and a great integration with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The interface will make it easier than ever to switch between accounts, making the process quicker and noticeably smoother.

Gmail has received its last update back in the summer, on July 15, but version 5.0 should become available any time now. In the meantime, if you simply cannot wait for the app to become officially available, the folks over at Android Police have the APK available for download so anyone can try it out before the formal release.
