The new Microsoft Lumia 535 smartphone is now official, as it just made its debut at the company's #MoreLumia event on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The Lumia 535 has drawn lots of attention recently, appearing in various leaks and reports ahead of its official debut, as it comes as the very first non-Nokia Lumia handset. The smartphone marks the beginning of a new era for the Lumia lineup, and is the first to launch with the new "Microsoft Lumia" brand name that completely eliminates the Nokia moniker.
Just as previously rumored, the Microsoft Lumia 535 is an entry-level handset with modest specifications on board, aiming to bring the Windows Phone experience with all its neat features to the budget segment of the market.
The Microsoft Lumia 535 sports a 5-inch IPS display with a qHD resolution of 950 x 540 pixels, and packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor under the hood, clocked at 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. Other specs include 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB, a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front shooter for high-quality selfies and video chats. The Lumia 535 comes in both single- and dual-SIM flavors, both 3G.
"Today sees the launch of the new Microsoft Lumia 535, our '5x5x5' smartphone package bringing a 5-inch screen, 5-megapixel front- and rear-facing camera, and free integrated Microsoft experiences (such as Skype and OneNote) to more people at an affordable price," Microsoft boasts in a new announcement on Tuesday, Nov. 11, on the rebranded Conversations blog.
"Lumia 535 comes with our '5x5x5' proposition," Jo Harlow, corporate vice president for Phones at Microsoft, adds in a press release. "Innovation should be available to everyone, and we are doing this through the very best integrated Microsoft services included and out of the box, a 5MP wide-angle front-facing camera, and a spacious 5-inch qHD screen - all at an affordable price."
Microsoft further touts that the Lumia 535 will always rock the latest version of Windows Phone, receiving "regular over-the-air updates" to keep it up to speed. The handset already comes with the Lumia Denim Update straight out of the box, and also includes popular Windows Phone features such as Cortana, Live Folders, Word Flow, and Action Center.
The new Microsoft Lumia 535 will launch later this month, arriving first in China, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh, with other regions to follow at a later date. The smartphone will cost €110 before taxes and subsidies, and will come in bright green, bright orange, cyan, dark grey, white, and black color options.
