T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA rolling out now

The T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially getting Android 5.0 Lollipop, as the over the air (OTA) rollout already kicked off.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is a powerful smartphone with good specs and features all around, and has enjoyed great popularity. Although Samsung fans are now eagerly waiting to see what the company has prepared for its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S6, owners of the 2014 flagship will still like to see their handset updated to the last major version of Android.

Several variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have already received a software treat to Android 5.0 Lollipop, aincluding carrier versions of the smarphone in the U.S. Surprisingly enough, Verizon Wireless was the first U.S. carrier to start updating its Galaxy S5 to Lollipop, delivering the update at the beginning of February. Sprint followed shortly after, becoming the second U.S. carrier to push Android 5.0 Lollipop to the smartphone.

T-Mobile is now following suit, as the Uncarrier has officially confirmed that it started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S5 on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

"Beginning February 18, the Samsung Galaxy S 5 will have a software update to Android version 5.0/ Baseband G900TUVU1DOB1 via OTA notification and update over Wi-Fi or Samsung Kies. This update provides new features," reads T-Mobile's updated support page for the Galaxy S5.

This leaves AT&T as the only one of the four major U.S. carriers to drag its feet regarding the Galaxy S5 Lollipop update, and there's still no information yet as to when it will roll out the update.

In addition to Android 5.0 Lollipop and all of the neat treats it has to offer, the latest software update for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 will also activate Wi-Fi calling 2.0, add improvements to the Wi-Fi calling experience, and resolve issues such as Wi-Fi calling one way audio and IPv6 email setup.

Android 5.0 Lollipop, meanwhile, will add a number of neat changes, new features, and improvements, albeit some of them may not be very obvious due to Samsung's heavy TouchWiz UI that rests on top of Android.

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S5 owners should receive a notification momentarily to update their device to Android 5.0 Lollipop, but remember that OTA updates always roll out gradually and take a while to reach all devices. That said, make sure to drop by our comment section below once you receive the update and tell us how it fares.
