A new Meizu MX4 smartphone with Ubuntu Touch is set to make an official debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, the company announced.
The original Meizu MX4 made its debut back in September 2014 and has proved to be quite popular ever since, gaining positive reviews. The handset launched with Android on board and the company's custom user interface (UI) on top, but a new variant is now en route with a different operating system (OS).
The Chinese OEM has officially announced plans to unveil a Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition next week at the MWC 2015, posting neat teasers (see image above) on its Twitter account.
Other than Ubuntu instead of Android, the smartphone is expected to have virtually identical specifications to the original model. As a reminder, the Meizu MX4 launched as quite a powerful smartphone with a 5.36-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1152 pixels, impressively thin bezels and Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and an octa-core MediaTek MT6595 processor under the hood, based on the Cortex A17 and A7 CPUs.
Other specs of the original Meizu MX4 include PowerVR G6200 graphics, 2GB of RAM, 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB of internal storage capacity, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 3,100 mAh battery.
As previously mentioned, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is expected to come with similar, if not identical specifications, but the company has offered no information in this regards so far. There's still a chance that the new model may sport some slightly altered specs.
With the Mobile World Congress 2015 just around the corner, however, we'll soon learn all the official details about the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition straight from the source.
In other words, the specs, features, pricing, and availability of the upcoming Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition remain unclear at this point, but not for long. It also remains to be seen whether the Ubuntu version of the smartphone will reach more markets than the original model.
