Samsung's Galaxy A tablets have officially gone up for pre-order in the U.S., ahead of their commercial release on May 1.
The Samsung Galaxy A series of tablets was first announced in Russia, but it is now time for the slates to expand their availability. Both the 8-inch and the 9.7-inch Galaxy A tablets have gone up for pre-order in the U.S. on Samsung's website on Monday, April 20, and will hit various retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and HH Gregg on May 1.
The 8-inch Galaxy Tab A sports a price tag of $229.99, while the 9.7-inch variant goes up to $299.99. The two slates will be available in Smoky Titanium, White, and Smoky Blue color options. Additionally, a Smoky Titanium version of the 9.7-inch model will come bundled with an S Pen and retail for $349.99 starting on May 17.
As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A duo aims to provide a good tablet experience without drawing a huge hole through your wallet. Both models come with a more square-ish 4:3 aspect ratio reminiscent of Apple's iPad lineup, and both feature a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab A tablets come equipped with quad-core processors clocked at 1.2GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage capacity, expandable up to 128GB via microSD cards. Other specs of the Galaxy Tab A series include a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 4,200 mAh battery for the 8-inch model and a 6,000 mAh unit for the 9.7-inch variant. The smaller 8-inch Galaxy Tab A also features oly one speaker, while the larger 9.7-inch variant sports two speakers at the bottom. On the software side, both slates ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
In addition to U.S. availability, both Samsung Galaxy A tablets are also coming soon to Canada. The slates come in White and Titanium color options in the country, and the 9.7-inch version will be automatically bundled with an S Pen, unlike the U.S. where the bundle is optional. The tablets will be available both online and in Samsung Experience stores.
