iPhone 6S May Double Download Speed and Battery Life with Qualcomm Modem

Leaked photos of the iPhone 6S show that Apple may be looking into doubling its battery life and download speed. Photos show that the iPhone 6S may use the Qualcomm modem to do this. Previous iPhone modems like the 64-bit A8 have been successful with increasing the device's speed. The reality is that users still find battery life an issue for the smartphones.

The modem is Qualcomm's MD9635M, also known as the Gobi 9X35. Techradar reported that the new modem will enable the iPhone 6S' internet speed to jump from 150Mbps to a maximum of 300Mbps. The upload speed still remains to be 50Mbps.

The new iPhone model's battery may have a capacity of over of 2,915 mAH (the battery capacity of the iPhone 6 Plus), a big increase to the 1,810 mAH of the iPhone 6. The 5.5-inch phone will have longer battery life with the installation of the chip. Qualcomm's Gobi 9x35 claims to be more energy-efficient than that. Wi-fi will not drain the iPhone's battery too much.

Qualcomm released the Gobi 9X35 on November 2013. The New York-based company's press release that year stated that, "The Gobi 9x35 and WTR3925 are specifically designed to use less power and occupy less printed circuit board area and continue the trend towards tighter integration, smaller size and increased performance. The 40 MHz carrier aggregation capability of the Gobi 9x35, coupled with the comprehensive carrier aggregation band support of the WTR3925, is engineered to allow network operators to combine their fragmented spectrum in all possible 3GPP-approved combinations of 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 15 MHz, and 20 MHz bandwidths to increase capacity and service more subscribers with an improved end-user experience."

Qualcomm Technologies has previously been pitted against Apple. Both companies released chipsets that have impressive capacities showcased by major technology brands. Apple used its A8 64-bit technology for Iphone 5S. Qualcomm has Samsung using its notable Snapdragon 810. Samsung is reportedly not using Qualcomm for its Galaxy Note5.

While Apple's A8 made a dent on Snapdragon devices, the two companies have started working together with the Iphone 6 this year. The chip in the Iphone 6S will be the second collaboration.

The iPhone 6S will be released in October this year.
