Canada -- As of July 12, Mojang's Minecraft-Pocket Edition tops the list of best-selling game apps for iPhone and iPad. The list has been released online, in websites such as Edmonton Journal and Brandon Sun. The full list also includes the top free games for iPhone and iPad.
The Mojang AB game's mobile version has been released to android and iOS devices in November 2011. It costs USD $6.99. It is available in GooglePlay Store and iTunesApp Store.
Minecraft-Pocket Edition involves a gameplay virtually the same as that of the game's original version, intended for computer gaming. The player still makes a virtual reality environment in the sandbox-like setting of the Minecraft World. Multiplayer feature is compatible with cross-platform touch screen devices that run the Pocket Edition.
The mobile version has enjoyed high sales figures and is a fixture in the top 10 best-selling game lists, even in other countries such as the US. Google's app store has indicated that the Mojang AB creation has reached over 30 million downloads over the entire duration of its sale on GooglePlay.
Minecraft is a popular game, first developed for pc and console gaming. It has since crossed over to mobile devices, with the Pocket Edition released for android and iOS in 2011. The mobile version has had equally positive reception from its users, despite it not having some features of its more sophisticated PC and console counterparts.
Aimed mostly at children ages 12 and below, topping sales lists has proven that the game reaches a wider and more general demographic. It is also becoming a mainstream educational tool in the United States, and adults are also involved in their children's learning via the game.
Recently, a Windows 10 version of Minecraft is also reported to be in development, just in time for the upcoming release of the new operating system.
