Pebble has just made Pebble Time available a couple of weeks ago. But the smartwatch company is not keen on wasting any time to introduce a new smartwatch to its market. Today, August 6, the company has introduced its newest smartwatch model, the Pebble Time Steel. The device is now available for pre-order. According to The Verge, shipment will be coming in about six to eight weeks, more than a month from now.
The latest Pebble watch is virtually the Pebble Time only made a bit better. For one, the name states the obvious. The Time Steel is made entirely of steel, unlike its predecessor. The new device also has a longer battery life and is equipped with a better display. The screen has less glare, according to Dan Seifert of The Verge, who tested the new device. The color palette is still limited to some muted colors and the device still has the same screen size as the Pebble Time.
The battery life can last up to six to seven days without charging. Some minus points to the new device lie on how it works around notifications. The new watch demonstrates limited functionality in this regard, as it does not present users with the option to respond to notifications with generic messages. Also, the device cannot filter which notifications are from the watch and which are not. It can only clear the notifications for the user.
The Pebble Time Steel retails for $249 and $299. The $249 price is for the version with a steel strap while the $299 is the cost of the watch with the leather strap. The prices are not very far from that of the Apple Watch, which some analysts say is the top-selling smartwatch in the market. Also copping an incredibly high customer satisfaction rate based on a study, the Apple Watch demonstrates functionality that is hard to compete with.
For this, users may opt to spend a couple of dollars more for a watch that gives them more conveniences. But the Pebble Time Steel has just arrived in the smartwatch market and it looks like it can hold its own.
