Google Has Made Its Own Router

On Aug. 19, Wednesday, the search giant Google seems to have gotten tired of people looking up the best router over the internet. The highly popular search engine has made its own router solution called OnHub, which the company hopes will help make network connection easier for households.

The Economic Times reported that the device closely resembles a speaker, but is indeed just purely an internet router. Google claims that OnHub is easy to set up, with a design that's noticeably simpler, having lesser wires, than today's existing routers.

"We replaced unruly cords and blinking lights with internal antennas and subtle, useful lighting, so you'll be happy placing OnHub out in the open, where your router performs its best," Google said about OnHub.

The design of the router, a cylindrical shape, allows for better penetration of the connection all throughout a given area. The look also lets owners feel comfortable displaying it, without having to think if the connection will be affected.

The device uses an app which is available for both Android and iOS. OnHub owners will then be able to manage their network connections via smartphones and other devices. Apart from that, the app also enables the user to see the connection speed. Troubleshooting is also one of its features.

OnHub supports Bluetooth and Weave, the smart home language developed by Google itself. The internet major says that OnHub will be able to support smart home devices in the near future. The router also automatically detects the best channel for its broadcast.

TP-Link is Google's collaborator in making OnHub. The router is equipped with 13 antennas inside it and 5 GHz Wi-fi internet connection. For now, it has been made available for pre-order in Canada and the United States for $199.99. It will begin selling on Aug 31. There has been no word as of yet regarding a worldwide sale of the device.
