US tech major Apple has announced that it will begin its iSight Camera Replacement Program, following complaints that the photos taken by the device's camera are not of good quality. Apple has announced the process for the replacement and has also set parameters regarding which phones are eligible for the program.
In its official post, the company stated, "Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry." As such, iPhone 6 Plus units with the said defect will have their iSight cameras replaced by Apple for free. Units with the defect are said to fall in a specific serial number range.
The company has put up a serial number checker in its official post about the matter. This is for customers to confirm if their devices are eligible for the camera replacement.
The iPhone 6 Plus units with the camera problem are sold primarily between Sept. 2014 and Jan. 2015 according to Apple. The company emphasizes that the program is only applicable to iPhone 6 Plus units.
If a device seems to be affected by the faulty component, the user needs to head to a participating Apple Authorized Service Provider. The phone will be thoroughly examined before it is subjected to any process involving the iSight camera, which is located at the back of the iPhone.
For more details, visit Apple's official post regarding the issue, and check the serial number before heading out to have the device checked and assessed.
The company also indicated that if the iPhone 6 Plus unit has any other problem which may affect the camera, a broken screen, for example, the user will have to address that first before Apple attends to its problem with the camera. Repairs of other components will have to be paid for by the customer.
The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple's thinnest smartphone. It is also the company's largest flagship to date. The device has been released in September last year.
