Intel has launched its newest family of processors, which has been codenamed Skylake. The new range of chips is a product of four years worth of research and development of the company, to bring innovative technology to modern-day devices.
The Skylake range is now known as Intel's sixth generation Core processors. PC World reported that the new chips will be used for upcoming hardware products such as laptops, tablets and desktop computers later in the year. The processors will come to devices a short time after Windows 10 has been released.
The Microsoft operating system claims, however, that it works just fine with newer devices and current processors. The company also stressed that processors are not necessary to boost devices like they used to. "There are more than a billion PCs out there that are more than 3 years old," said Kirk Skaugen, Intel's senior vice president, of the need to upgrade.
Intel claims that the new generation of processors will lengthen battery life for devices, as they enable hardwares to use less energy to function. The chips will also allow users to play 4K videos, although only few contents that have the resolution are available at the moment. The processor has over 50 versions to choose from.
The sixth-generation chips may be the company's first bid for a wireless revolution in the tech world. The chips support wireless settings with WiDi, WiGig and Unite. The chips also support wireless display and docking through the three technologies. The programs allow users to connect to USBs and do away with HDMI cables among others, according to Economic Times.
The sixth-generation Intel Core processors may just give way to a world of entirely wireless technology. But until they roll out, much of them will still have to be seen. Intel may just be getting started with its plans of a wireless world.
