New Smartwatch App Lets You Get Caught Speeding

If an app like this one existed back when you were in high school, then there would have been no way for you to go on a joy ride without getting caught. Your smartwatch can tell you when you're going beyond the speed limit. Viper's newest smartwatch app, the SmartStart, has been launched on Sept. 15. With its features, you'd be glad you did not have a smartwatch- or a car- back in high school.

Millenials will not be getting away with joy rides now. According to a Forbes report on the new app, the SmartStart app notifies users when they are speeding by giving alerts. And these alerts can be seen by a corresponding smartphone app. The app also lets users locate their cars and let the watch function via voice-activated commands.

Viper included commands that let users lock and unlock their cars. The app also enables users to start their cars from a distance. Apart from those commands, users will also be able to find their way back to their cars, as the app provides them with directions to the vehicle. Drivers will be able to open their trunks, hit the panic button and receive notifications when the battery is running low.

Drivers can set up their own SmartStart system by visiting Viper's website. The app can be connected to the car's maintenance, which shows diagnostics and lets users access emergency assistance by tapping the screen. Viper claims that the new technology can work hand-in-hand with virtually any car model available in the market. "Wearable technology has the potential to connect drivers to their cars like never before," said Frank De Martin, Viper's senior vice president, in a statement.

The app has already rolled out to the Apple Watch. Viper said that the SmartStart 4.0 will also be coming to Android wearables in a few weeks' time. The smartphone app has been released in January.
