Switching from an Android to an iPhone may not be too much of a difficult choice, or a process to make especially now that Apple releases its first app on the Google Play Store. The app, called 'Move to iOS' is designed to help users migrate their photos, messages, Google account, contacts and bookmarks to help them get started with a 'change'.
"When you choose to migrate your data, your new iPhone or iPad will create a private Wi-Fi network and find your nearby Android device running 'Move to iOS'. After you enter a security code, it will begin transferring your content and put it in the right places. Just like that. Once your content has been transferred, you're ready to get going. iOS will also set up your default mail account. That's it -- you can start using your new iPhone or iPad and experiencing its endless possibilities. Enjoy," appears in the app description.
However, the data isn't synced to the cloud. The hefty size of data people used today would only spell huge costs when everything is synced to the cloud. The iPhone will instead create a secured private Wi-Fi network and migrate all the data into its proper place. It is even complete with a message saying: Recycle your Android phone.
'Move to iOS' was published recently in the Google Play Store and seemed to be taken as a move by Apple to pull away users from Android. This also goes ahead of Cupertino's launch of the latest iPhones, which is set to release on Sept. 25. The app is compatible on all smartphones and tablets running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or later. More importantly, it also works with previous models of iPhone.
Android users, however, met the app with mixed reception. Apple's first ever Android app received mostly 1 star rating, as it may be all about switching to an iOS device straight from Android. This goes to show that Android fans are taking this more as an insult rather than a workaround for easy migration.
