Google is upping its venture on the cloud-based services, as it is constantly improving the features of its app. Google Drive for Business has recently gotten a boost on its data retention feature. The changes that have come to Google's cloud storage service have been announced by the company on Monday, Sept 21. The boost is Google's bid to better address the needs of its working customers.
According to CIO New Zealand, the improved Google Drive is able to comply with a specific company's policy for deleting data after a certain amount of time. If, for instance, companies have set data retention policy for their system, the files will be saved for a set amount of time into the Google Vault. The Vault is integrated into the improved Google Drive for Business.
Google Vault's data management properties and e-discovery service equips Google Drive for Business with better data retention features. Companies will also be able to use the feature to delete files after a set amount of time. Drive can also hold on to some documents in case they will be needed for future use in scenarious such as lawsuits, among other situations.
Director for Product Management at Google Drive, Scott Johnson, said that the service is "transparent", citing that the Vault is holding the company's content. "And so you take something like [the legal hold feature], you're going to delete something, and Vault's going to hold onto it as long as needed, but that's not going to interfere with your workflow. It's like having an extra storage device sitting there, helping you retain things that need to be retained." Johnson stated in an interview.
Google Drive for Business is available for download via the Google Play Store. The Google Apps For Work website also offers a demo of the Google Drive for Business. The new features in the app will be rolling out to a select number of users for the meantime. The company also offers Google App for Work, which includes Google tools for the workplace, in two plan packages, one for $5 a month and another for $10. The $10 plan includes the Google Vault feature and unlimited storage.
