Latest 3D Graphic Chip For Laptops By NVIDIA Launches

NVIDIA announced that its top-end GeForce GTX 980 desktop GPU is headed to laptops. The company claims that it is the first of its kind in the industry.

Users would no longer need a massive, water-cooled gear to play the hottest blockbuster shooters with plenty of gaming laptops doing a good job of complying with performance and movability. But a wall still exists with even the finest mobile GPUs defined as "desktop-class," which is a nice way of saying that they are not as quite as dominant like the cards made for home office-hogging spaces. Not to be jumbled with the GTX 980M GPU for notebooks, the GTX 980 for laptops is precisely the same as the desktop variety, offering equal gaming performance.

Created using NVIDIA's power efficient Maxwell structural design, the GTX 980 runs at a base 1.1GHz clock speed, with 2048 CUDA cores and 4GB of GDDR5 video memory. All these numbers are inside a laptop GPU that can comfortably run any of the hottest titles at over 60 fps on maximum graphics settings. The GTX 980 can also drive three 1080p displays and is fully certified by Oculus. Meaning, it is sure to hold up to the demands of virtual reality gaming effectively.

Moreover, the GTX 980 for laptops is created with serious fanatics in mind. According to NVIDIA, it is the first fully unlocked GPU for notebooks. Any laptop using the chip will feature NVIDIA software that lets users overclock the GPU -- making other setting manipulations like setting temperature onsets and cooling fan speeds.

Clearly, the GTX 980 is fated to be the top-drawer for gaming laptops, such as the recently announced water-cooled ASUS GX700, and such from the likes of Gigabyte, Clevo and MSI. The 18-inch MSI GT80 will even brag two of the new top-end GPUs. With this, the users can anticipate many more allies proclaiming laptops in the near future using this new level in notebook graphics.
