Taking selfies is already part of every getaway or even simple routine activities like cooking, working out or having dinner. It has also become a staple for highlights of everyday life. These days, being the first person to arrive at work deserves a celebratory selfie. Having a good hair day deserves a selfie. Bumbing into a celebrity or suddenly changing upon a good background needs a selfie. So smartphones and users should be ready to snap away almost every time.
Gadgets such as selfie sticks are also there to make capturing photos easier, for when a solo selfie is just not enough. South Korean tech company LG is well aware of the selfie trend and how important it is today. The newest LG V10 smartphone, which the company released on Thursday, Oct. 1, is equipped with technology that helps users take better selfies. According to CTV News, the new handset has two screens: one 5.7-inch main screen and a smaller screen on top of it.
The smaller screen shows the weather and time even with the main screen locked. It can also receive notifications while the user is watching videos and can also display frequently used apps. The new handset is equipped with both the standard 80-degree lens and 120-degree wide angle option. This means more people will be able to fit into a group selfie without having to use a selfie stick.
LG CEO and President Juno Cho said in a release, "The LG V10 was designed from the ground up primarily as a multimedia smartphone for the sharing ecosystem." Cho said that customers have been giving feedback on the earlier LG smartphone, the G4, saying they were not at ease taking the phone on vacation without bringing a separate camera. The CEO said he hopes that V10 can satisfy the needs of LG customers.
LG has released the new smartphone in an attempt to secure a bigger share in the smartphone market. Last year, sales fell from 4.7 percent to 3.8 percent, as the company has been edged out by Samsung, Apple and Chinese startups. The LG V10 will go on sale in South Korea later this month, for 800,000 won or $678. The phone will also be coming to US and China, as well as "key countries in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East."
