Apple TV To Tap Into Universal Search

Apple TV has a new up and coming feature called the Universal Search. This feature will allow users to quickly search across a number of varying amenities to find what they are looking for.

One of the more persuasive new features on the impending Apple TV is something Apple calls the Universal Search. As opposed to the existing state where users have to jump in and out of different applications in order to find what programming is offered where, the Universal Search will allow users to search across varying services to find channels they are in search for. In other words, envision Universal Search as a fusing layer that sits at the top of all the content available in Apple TV's media applications.

At its launch, the fourth-generation Apple TV will be able to search for programming across Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, iTunes, and HBO. So, if viewers for example are looking to catch up on "Game of Thrones," they can simply enter a search and Apple TV will scour all of the said services for the viewers. The days of adapted searches across multiple applications will soon be over.

Apple CEO Tim Cook lately revealed in a dialogue that search results from the iTunes Store would not be given first billing. This is mainly overwhelming given that films on Netflix seem to be cycled in and out more hastily than most users can believably keep track of.

Cook also exposed that Apple is preparing to offer designers an application programming interface so that other apps can be involved under the Universal Search in the future.

At the launch, Apple will have iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Showtime, and HBO, so it will have five major inputs into universal search initially. It is also opening an API, so that other programs can join in.

The Apple TV is scheduled to takeoff sometime later this month, but Apple has yet to give out a release date. Value-wise, remember that a 32 GB model will set back about $149, while the 64 GB variety will be set a price at $199.
