Apple's flagship monitor iMac is getting its own upgrade after the company released many of its new devices last month. The US tech giant has launched the new Apple TV, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus and the iPad Air 2 just recently. The company's other devices such as the iPod and the Apple Watch have also gotten some updates in the past few months.
Apple's 2015 version of the iMac gets the 4K resolution display, according to a CNET report. The 21.5-inch device packs in 4,096 pixels, just a little bit more than the more common 3,840 pixels consumers use for 4K content these days. According to the report, the difference is barely noticeable. But the display appears sharper and the individual pixels can hardly be seen with the slightly higher display resolution.
The difference in resolution can be noticed by those who have already tested 3,840x2.160-pixel devices, called the Ultra High Definition or UHD. Consumers are really taken by 4K devices, although available content is not expected to go beyond the 1,920x1,080 resolution. The price of the iMac 2015 start at US$1,499. There are also base models available that retain their 1,920x1,080 resolution. Price starts at US$1,099.
The new iMac's revamp does not end with the higher resolution, as it also has the retina display that supports the P3 colour gamut. Standard devices only support the sRGB. With the Retina display, Apple says that 25 per cent more colours are added to the display. This makes the iMac ideal for photo, design and video enthusiasts.
Apple's MacBook Pro is equipped with the same Retina display technology. Design-wise, the iMac 2015 still looks the same, and it comes as a surprise as the design is already a trademark of the Apple monitor. "These are the most stunning iMacs we've ever made. With our gorgeous new Retina displays, more powerful processors and graphics and all-new Magic accessories, the new iMac continues to redefine the ultimate desktop experience." Philip Schiller, the company's VP for worldwide marketing, said in a press release.
The iMac 2015 is now available in the Apple Store.
