Although Spotify is considered a rival of Apple Music, the music streaming service still nabbed the top spot in the Apple App Store. Apple Inc. naturally wants to tout its own apps, but it's inevitable that other services similar to those offered by Apple land good spots in the App Store.
Spotify boasts a total of 22 million users who pay to use the app. Over 55 million users avail the service, sitting through apps to stream music, for free. It is clear that Apple Music still has a lot of catching up to do, but CEO Tim Cook is pleased with its app's performance. And Spotify getting the top spot just determines that the music streaming app's market is growing continuously.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has just broken the news that the company's own music streaming service, Apple Music, has already reached 15 million users months after it has formally been released. A Tech Times report says that the new music streaming service has amassed a total of 6.5 million users who pay to use the app. News of the milestone has yet to cool down when Spotify reportedly landed the top spot in the Apple App Store.
And the same can be said of Apple Music's audience. "I think it's fabulous. And to have over 15 million on there, and 6.5 million in the paid category, I'm really happy about it, and I think the runway here is really good." Apart from the 6.5 million users in the paid category, the other 8.5 million are participating in the 90-day free trial. Apple Music streams playlists that are curated by music experts.
Released in June this year, many have raised brows about Apple Music which has been said to resemble Spotify too closely. The app's user interface has also been met with complaints saying it is confusing, and bugs have been reported to infect the app. Cook says that its music streaming app's edge against rivals is that it has employed music experts who "bring back the art" in the service.
