It is no secret that Apple, a California-based company, is outsourcing its manufacturing jobs to China. Whether to save costs or to get much faster device production, Cupertino's decision to manufacture its products in a different country have proven to be much of a profit for the company. However, Apple's investments do not stop in outsourcing its manufacturing labor.
Apple has been pushing forward renewable sources, and reportedly, the company is setting out with two new projects to improve the state of environment and the impact it has in the country.
According to reports, Apple has a big commitment to solar enegy in China. This new project will have new solar grids built in the different regions of China to generate over 200 megawatts of electricity. The generated power will then add to the 40 megawatts of solar energy Apple is also producing in the Sichuan Province. According to Apple, the solar grids will be capable of providing energy to over 265,000 households each year, while also helping its supply partners to offset the energy they use.
Currently, Apple's buildings are already powered by renewable energy sources, and to have it bring new solar grids in China is definitely a step forward and a clear indication that Cupertino is devoted to renewable sources of energy.
As for the second project, the company is launching an initiative to partner with several Chinese manufacturers to deliver 2 gigawatts of renewable energy, through solar, wind and hydropower for manufacturing in China by 2020.
"We are excited to embark on this initiative with Apple. Our companies share a vision for driving sustainability and I hope that this renewable energy project will serve as a catalyst for continued efforts to promote a greener ecosystem in our industry and beyond," said Foxconn Technology Group Founder and CEO, Terry Gou. "Sustainability is a core pillar in Foxconn's strategy and we are committed to investing in green manufacturing."
Apple may seem to be driven into using and bringing renewable energy both for itself and through the lands where it outsources its manufcaturing labors to, and it has proven to be a surmountable effort to improve the environmental state the world is currently facing.
